Sveta Kaverina was born in 1977 in the former USSR. With a Masters degree in Culture and Society and a doctorate in Philosophy, she lived in Moscow and worked as a political journalist. She moved to Bath, UK in 2014. Since 2022 she has lived in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Sveta’s primary artistic interest centers on the ability and willingness of human beings to respond to fundamental challenges encountered throughout their existence, from birth to death.

She explores both the uniqueness and universality of this contradictory experience: living with the awareness of one’s own mortality; the courage to surrender to powerful emotions, knowing they are finite; the readiness to bring children into a world full of social and existential crises; the use of art as a tool for seeking immortality.

The main subject of Sveta’s artistic inquiry is, first and foremost, herself, as the most accessible yet most resistant material for impartial study. The process of self-discovery proves to be all-encompassing: the artist explores the boundaries of her body, attempts to find explanations for her fears and dreams, and grapples with the ever-changing set of her competencies and responsibilities.

For her, the creative process becomes an ongoing attempt to defragment familiar knowledge of herself, scaling each extracted fragment into a universal reflection on life, death, and the nature of art.
